Crystal Bowersox

JAY HORTON
8 pm, Saturday April 27 | Sold out.
Aladdin Theater
3017 SE Milwaukie Ave.

[AMERICANA IDOL] All That for This, Crystal Bowersox's sophomore effort, isn't what we'd ordinarily call a "Portland" album—roots are only teased while inviting local vets for session work, barely making up for the Jakob Dylan duet—but any folk-pop collection so perfectly tailored to a songstress's considerable charms of delivery seems a significant step forward from her contractually obligated assembly-line debut. Admirable enough that she switched from Jive to world-music label Shanachie, American Idol contestants—especially the rare female finalist who had an original song played mid-season—aren't supposed to choose indieville after finding fame. That's generally when the star-search bait moves away. A belated but hearty welcome to the new Portlander, congratulations for embracing her own distinct approach and, er, the best of luck with the imminent stint as Patsy Cline on Broadway.
