[SHAMANISTIC FOLK] The one-time Fleet Foxes drummer has forfeited the sad-sack Seattle scene for warmer climes and more daring musical territory. Josh Tillman, aka Father John Misty, has but one record to his new band’s name in Fear Fun, but the aggrandizing effort reveals Tillman as a true frontman. His cultish incorporation of pseudo theology, dark humor and absurd L.A. culture makes for a Kool-Aid worth drinking. That is to say nothing of his musical prowess: Tillman’s sermonizing folk incantations, backed by a talented cast of supporting players, helped create one of the most memorable sets at Coachella last month.
