[CASSETTLERS] It’s official: We’re in the midst of a cassette tape renaissance. As if it weren’t obvious by the sheer number of labels specializing in that nostalgically cumbersome music-listening medium that has sprung up in recent years, next month is the first-ever national Cassette Store Day, a response to the more vinyl-centric Record Store Day, and Mayhaw Hoons wants in on the action. The ex-Shaky Hand has plans to launch a new label, Space Cassette, with the Minders’ Martyn Leaper. This show—featuring prolific post-punks the Woolen Men, Hoons’ former bandmate Nick Delffs and his own garage-pop project, Spookies—acts as both a kickoff and a fundraiser for that new imprint. No tapes will be available at this show, but expect a sampler soon. Hopefully in time for Cassette Store Day.
