Light Noise is a new piece by Lucy Yim, in which the dancers perform topless. Two men and two women, including Yim, explore their identities and relationships with their bodies, as well as the audience’s perception of them. The work plays off ideologies of Yvonne Rainer, who sees dance as a minimalist art that should be stripped down to its most neutral form, and Martha Graham, who was known for spectacle. The comparison is meant to illustrate how the body can be both objectified and revered. The 45-minute performance is stimulating, but also orderly and thoughtful. Yim is further defining herself as an artist in this piece—both as a provocateur and an amalgamation of her experiences.
