[KINDERFOLK] Dropping into public consciousness a dozen years ago as one-half of Moldy Peaches—the beloved N.Y. anti-folk duo given a posthumous semi-hit off the Juno soundtrack—and most recently touring with similarly hyper-literate rapper Aesop Rock as the Uncluded, Kimya Dawson’s likely best-known for her collaborations, as the keening loopiness of her trademark vocals begs a more grounded pairing. But the transplanted Northwesterner has assembled a devoted following all her own through a surprisingly expansive body of work. Thunder Thighs, her seventh and latest solo recording, blends the effervescent playfulness of unadulterated children’s album Alphabutt with more trenchant musings on motherhood and mortality for a winningly graceful cartwheel from the nursery to the parlor and back again.
