The Lonely Forest, Cumulus

PETE COTTELL
9 pm., Friday November 08 | $12.
Bunk Bar
1028 SE Water Ave.

[POWER POP] After cutting its teeth as the go-to tourmate for other sincere guitar rock bands, Lonely Forest finds itself at a crossroads with latest release Adding Up the Wasted Hours. How does one steer clear of quickly turning into a bouncier ringer for Death Cab for Cutie while keeping the hooks twangy and razor sharp? The Anacortes, Wash., four-piece answered by turning the synths up and the guitars down—an obvious path to broader appeal at the cost of tunes that are actually fun. There won’t be enough familiar fans in the audience to get a pogo pit going for the searing power pop of older tracks like “We Sing in Time” or “Blackheart vs. Captain America,” but it’s worth showing up to see these guys before they’re both famous and boring.
