Red Fang, Bison, Drunk Dad

ASHLEY JOCZ
8 pm., Friday December 27 | $20.
Wonder Ballroom
128 NE Russell St.

[HARDCORE] Aesthetically, Drunk Dad is filth metal. It’s four dudes who sing about Satan and will openly talk about pot and hating yuppies in interviews. Debut album Morbid Reality has an instrumental track with a pig squealing in the background the entire time. And, I mean, its moniker is “Drunk Dad.” Although all the aforementioned traits make the members of Drunk Dad awesome dirtbags, there is a slew of hardcore bands in the Northwest that follow that same mantra. What makes Drunk Dad more than just its namesake is the diversity and complexity of its sound. The band manages to channel the angst and punch essential to hardcore while playing with math-rock tightness, occasionally dipping into more psychedelic terrain. This Dad might be drunk, but its tenacity and range is sobering.
