[FESTERING PSYCHEDELIA] San Francisco’s fuzz kings Sleepy Sun don’t believe in keeping it clean. At times, vocalist Bret Constantino lethargically spouts seemingly ’shroom-induced murmurs with beautiful apathy at others with the punkish leanings of Jane’s Addiction. The band’s fourth record, Maui Tears, is an expected wash of ’70s-inspired sludge and heavy, drooping guitars that motors like Sabbath whilst delicately pirouetting atop flute-abetted breakdowns and stoned solos. It’s not the band’s finest (see 2010’s Fever), but the wah-wah still goes to 11.
