[AUSSIE DANCE] In Australia, there is only one Rufus, but in the U.S., the Sydney dance-pop trio was forced to tack on an addendum. Rufus du Sol’s Atlas, coming stateside this summer, sounds like a wordplay-loving tour through sunny beach resorts—I’d like to see Chaka Khan’s Rufus get anywhere this awesome. Synthesized claves and steel-drum sounds put them in Harry Belafonte’s orbit, but their melodies are too catchy to reduce to simple tropicalia. If this is what pop music means in Australia, we’ll call them whatever they want.
