[UNEXPECTED SOUL] Over the course of four decades, Steve Winwood has been the kind of prodigy who never slows down. Though he first belted blue-eyed soul and laid down Hammond organ for the Spencer Davis Group when he was 14 years old, he later pinballed between bands and worked as a session musician for the likes of Hendrix, fronted Traffic and formed supergroup Blind Faith in between. His mid-’80s solo career even produced a couple synth-laden pop hits (“Higher Love”), but it was his bluesy return to form 2008’s Nine Lives, that served as a reminder of why he remains one of England's remarkable voices.
