Chuck Prophet and the Mission Express, Red Jacket Mine
836 N Russell St.
[GOLDEN STATE INDIE ROCK] Chuck Prophet loves San Francisco. The one-time member of ’80s psych-rockers Green on Red has embraced the Bay Area with open arms, leading an impressive solo career that feels less so mainly because the company of his favorite city figures into just about everything he’s written. His 2012 release, Temple Beautiful, is Prophet’s best to date, an ode to all strange Northern Californian things. His catchy, Telecaster-driven riffs is West Coast Americana in its purest form, steeped in folk but struck with the occasional blow of post-punk brashness. This time around, Prophet plays with his full backing band, a talented quintet aptly dubbed the Mission Express.
