Quiet Life, Ark Life, Lost Cities

[RUST-BELT ROCK] Despite the band’s name, the quiet life is the last thing frontman Sean Spellman and Co. have been living since releasing their excellent sophomore LP, Wild Pack, in October. The local roots-rock outfit—who recently toured with the Head and the Heart—is already at work on new material, with Jim James and others making guest appearances. “Heartbroken Man,” the title track from the band's upcoming EP, swings with the kind of honkey-tonk solos and spit-shined harmonies established on the group’s earlier albums, except this time, there's a raw grit that comes courtesy of Shovels and Rope’s Cary Ann Hearst. It may have premiered via Esquire, but it sounds as if it's from the Big Pink.
