[EMO SURVIVALISTS] If one were to dole out superlatives to Emotional Punk Rock’s Class of 2002, Long Island’s Brand New may not have been the obvious choice for “Most Likely To Succeed.” A decade later, however, the fourpiece has managed to stand its ground and pull off the unthinkable feat of aging alongside a fanbase known best for its questionable haircuts and unflinching affront to growing the fuck up already. 2009's Daisy was a bit too serious for its own good, but 2007's The Devil & God Are Raging Inside Me still holds up as more than just a stopgap between the pre-Hot Topic scene of the early aughts and the tres chic “twinklecore” wave that owes a fantastic debt to the outsized ambition and cathartic implosions of their aforementioned masterpiece.
