DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE: [THE SAME STORY THE CROWES TOLD ME] As with old touring partner Oasis, one assumed the dissolution of the Black Crowes was less a matter of creative direction than nuclear response to sibling rivalry, but the Chris Robinson Brotherhood—whose name suggests family tensions still abound—has embarked upon a wholly new, though not unfamiliar, long, strange trip. While recently released sophomore album The Magic Door doesn’t entirely abandon Robinson’s trademark Southern-fried blues, his all-star troupe—featuring veterans of the Crowes, L.A. Guns and the backing bands for Ryan Adams and B.B. King—indulges a far more expansive psychedelia. Notably, his performances end without any trace of the old hits, though a Grateful Dead cover receives loving interpretation.
