DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:

[WEST COAST] Los Angeles emcee Dom Kennedy may be associated with the “new” West Coast, but his sound is a reflection of the classic, laid-back breeziness established by G-funk in the ’90s. While peers such as Kendrick Lamar take subjects of drinking and partying with a grain of salt, Kennedy embraces the lush lifestyle with an ounce of weed. This is not a bad thing: Kennedy manages to sound fresh despite constantly talking about the same things, which is tough to do. His appeal partly has to do with the beats he chooses: smooth, jazzy backdrops that invoke a warm evening drive down a palm tree-lined avenue. His latest tape,Yellow Album, is an ideal summer soundtrack, full of barbecue anthems and odes to late-night parties. It’s the kind of music that can bring a little warmth to even the rainiest of days, which makes it pretty relevant around here.
