[BECK THE HALLS] Heard the new Beck album yet? Probably not—the ever-quirky singer-songwriter went way beyond retro this time, releasing the old-time-y <i>Song Reader</i> only as sheet music, as part of his attempt to revitalize the dream of the 1890s, or something. Fortunately, Portland Cello Project has remedied Beck’s oversight by recording all 20 of those new songs for its upcoming holiday release. With help from guest artists like Jolie Holland, members of Radiation City and others, a half-dozen or more cellists will play some of them—a different crop each night—and other cello-centric seasonal sounds.<br><p></p>
