<span class="s1">[GLITCH-HOP]</span> <span class="s1">Identifying the many samples Portland’s Asher Fulero incorporates as electro-composer Halo Refuser is half the experience. His 2013 release, <i>Melting Magic</i>, has everything from owls to crickets to film-projector sounds sprinkled carefully over synth-y ambience, and glitchy, whomp-y dubstep breakdowns. Fulero’s unrushed musings are reminiscent of Emancipator, or, going further back, UNKLE. The contemporary producer in him has Halo Refuser opting for bigger effects and that vortex sound immortalized by glow-stick artists like Deadmau5 and Skrillex. The opposing styles scuffle somewhat, but when they get along, it’s a heady seance in some digital dojo in a galaxy far, far away.</span>&nbsp;<p></p>
