[PDX HOPS NOW!] Much as you might assume Portland’s signal crafts to be a perfect marriage, the countless festivals assembled to honor local beer and music tend to veer uncomfortably to one side or the other. Concerts too often sail the tides of PBR, and the Brewers’ Fest entertainment could only appeal to, um, brewers. But the second annual Malt Ball—put on by <i>Portland Mercury </i>and Oregon Craft Beer<i>—</i>strives to redress past wrongs by arranging enlightened matches that truly sample the best of our cottage industries. Among the designated pairings on display, split between a 2-7 pm shift and another from 7:30 pm to midnight, the brewmasters behind Omission Beer’s gluten-free concoctions conspire with Radiation City’s atmospheric indie-popsters; the industrial taproom of Gigantic Brewing seems an excellent fit for uncompromising metallic trio Sons of Huns; and the Caleb Klauder Country Band has already surrendered a mandolin to the Hopworks’ vat for a pour we’ll guess to be smooth and full-bodied with roots-y notes.&nbsp;<p></p>
