The Lost Season

Most Oregon ski resorts are reeling from terrible weather. Should we worry?

Snow Report
Back in January, I was itching to get past the slow start of the Oregon ski season. On the first Sunday of the new year, I ended up driving out to Mount Hood Skibowl for a cheap night on the mou   More

Deadspin Interviews Snow Jogger Who Fell In "Perfect" Conditions

And she's not quite the cultural parable you wanted her to be.

snow jog to hell

Movies & Television
Look, you've seen the video by now, in some form, while y'all cowered inside from the snow and manned your Facebook feed. A pair of runners in terribly expensive tracksuits were interviewed on KOIN news along a snow-blanketed North Mississippi Avenue. And they self-identified as Californians!"It's the perfect texture for running," says the woman, in rapturous tones. "Very low impact, and ...   More

Worst Day of the Year Ride Canceled Because of Bad Weather

Update: Even the party!

It's a moment that Portland cyclists will be living down for years, if not decades: the challenging portion of the 2014 Worst Day of the Year Ride, which had been scheduled for this Sunday, has been canceled because the weather will be bad.By bad we mean that there will be as many as eight inches of snow on the ground in Portland. Cops' Charity Polar Plunge Canceled Because of Snow

Portland plungers deem conditions too polar.

Fake Portland Snow Day E-mailed From... China?

Local news, Portland Police Bureau briefly punked.

Local media got snowed last night by an e-mail saying that Portland Public Schools would be delayed two hours for snow that had yet to materialize.  KGW and KATU sent out tweets with the news. The Portland Police Bureau did likewise. Fifteen-year-olds across the city, we presume, cracked their energy drinks and sparkling apple ciders. But alas! It was not to be. Within about fifteen minutes, ...   More

Mayor Sam Adams' Snow Warning

Mayor Sam Adams told our friends at KATU in this video below that the city isn't kidding around when it comes to SNOWSTORM 2010 (aka we may get up to two inches of snow this afternoon). And since mayors are often judged by their handling of snow, we assume Adams means it when he says that city officials will tow abandoned cars this time and require drivers to use traction devices on streets ...   More
