Isaac Brock On Portland: "What a collection of human turds."

The Modest Mouse frontman tells Poland about the dark side of weirdness.

Isaac Brock and Modest Mouse just played the Heineken-sponsored Open'er music festival in Gdynia, a little Baltic port town in Poland best known for the Heineken-sponsored Open'er music festival, which also featured Mumford & Sons, a band that is the musical equivalent of Heineken.Anyway, the Poles were super excited to know about Portland. Via Isaac Brock, this is what the people of ...   More

Deep Cuts: Lady Lamb, "Ten"

Most video-store clerks aren’t writing music in the shop after hours and falling asleep in their guitar case. But Aly Spaltro isn’t most people. She was introduced to the Beatles at age 5 and had more songs to her name as a teenager than most musicians pen in a lifetime. The MusicfestNW Superlatives

The best of MFNW, from Girl Talk's trash to Future Island's dance moves to Haim's bass face to Stephen Malkmus's shorts.

Seasons change, and sometimes, so do music festivals. MusicfestNW kicked off its newer, slimmer era last weekend, going down to Tom McCall Waterfront Park and spending two blistering hot summer days next to the Willamette River. It’s hard for us to comment on the festival without seeming a little biased, but we have to say that, after all the online shouting over the new format, it was, overall, ...   More
