Buy PDX: Portland Black Friday Events

Little Boxes heads the charge for local shopping, Frances May and Animal Traffic join too

BY SARAH DONOFRIO

Associating Black Friday with Wal-Mart, mobs and all the season's negative qualities is easy to do, but this city takes the day as an opportunity to shine a light on all the standout independent retailers that call Portland home. With deals and events going on in every area, there's guaranteed to be a store you can roll yourself to this Thanksgiving weekend.

All three Animal Traffic locations as well as their online store are keeping Black Friday exciting by offering 20% off to the early birds between 12am-12pm (in store hours still apply), and the rest of the sales continue until Monday.

Frances May, fresh out of last weekends warehouse sale, is ready to treat us again by offering 25% off all weekend, in-store and online. For those of you who won't- and can't- leave their beds this Friday, they are offering free local pick-up of online orders, at your convenience, of course!

If you are unsure of where to go hunting for deals, Little Boxes makes it easy to shop local this Friday. It's website covers every category of Portlands best small businesses, including Adorn, Tender Loving Empire, Blush Beauty Bar, Grasshopper and many, many more.

They've also included a complete map, by neighborhood, of everyone who is participating, along with an alphabetical list. Take the Little Boxes app with you to any of these stores on Friday or Saturday, and receive an additional 10% off of your purchase. This site makes re-gifting easy as well, as using the LB app in any of their listed stores also gives you a chance to win some great prizes including trips, iPads or just a few nights stay in the Jupiter Hotel.

This will definitely take the guilt out of the one-for-me-one-for-you Holiday shopping routine.
