It's Hot—Jump in a Pool and Watch a Movie This Week

Dive-In Movies returns to Portland's public pools this week

Portland summers are full of watching movies outside. Whether it be at one of the best drive-ins in the country, in at a Southeast Portland food cart pod, or on a farm that serves hot popcorn with farm-grown herb toppings, we tend to take advantage of the absence of rain to sit outside and watch something.

This week, you can watch a movie while soaking in an outdoor pool.

Portland Parks and Recreation's Dive-In Movies returns to pools this week—a Portland summer tradition that's existed for more than 20 years.

A different public pool will screen Minions every night this week, starting tonight with Pier Pool at 8:30 pm.

Pools will be heated warmer than normal to account for cooler nights. The pools will sell popcorn, slushies and other snacks, including new treats this year: caramel corn and hot chocolate.

Please do not spill them in the water. That's disgusting.

Pools open for evening swimming at 7:30 pm, and the movie begins when the sun goes down, at about 8:30 pm. It costs $5 for adults and $3.50 for youth at all pools except Wilson, which is $5.50 for adults and $4.50 for kids.

Here's the full list for the week:

Tuesday, 8/16: Pier Pool

Wednesday, 8/17: Sellwood Pool

Thursday, 8/18: Grant Pool

Friday, 8/19: Montavilla Pool

Saturday, 8/20: Creston Pool

Sunday, 8/21: Wilson Pool
