Beer Hall: Beer Pro/Am, Breakside Oktoberfest, Killer Beer Week Begins

Portland Beer Events for the Week of October 13, 2016.

A Fall of fests continues this week, with our annual Beer Pro/Am joined by the reopening of a popular Killingsworth haunt, the kick-off of Killer Beer Week, and Breakside's late addition to the Oktoberfestivities.

Also of note is a significant smattering of cloudy, New England-style IPAs, a new favorite of the editorial staff since Great Notion's Juice Jr. first blessed our lips in the midst of 72-other local IPAs.

Get up, get out and drink something.

Thursday, October 13

Cloudy IPA Night at Imperial

Imperial celebrates the cloudy fall weather with a whole mess of hop haze this week, pouring West Coast versions of the increasingly haute New England-Style IPA. Cloudy and juicy as they come, these extremely aromatic creations feature all or mostly late-hop additions, with flavor and aromatics that ride right up to the thick green chlorophyll line. Imperial Bottle Shop & Taproom, 3090 SE Division St. 5 pm. Free.

Friday, October 14

Killer Beer Summit

Montavilla's best beer bar joins forces with the fine folks at Brewpublic, kicking of their annual weeklong SXNW of one-off beer events. The corks come out tonight, with selections from Alesong, Melvin, Bagby Beer, and more on tap. Roscoe's Pub, 8105 SE Stark St. 5 pm. Free.

Tin Bucket Fresh Hop Fest

Thought you'd seen your last kick-ass fresh-hop fest? Wrong, motherfucker! There's this one. Tin Bucket's tapping all three Breakside fresh hops, plus Culmination, Crux, Ecliptic, Flat Tail, 2 Towns and Machine House. Freshness is dead. Long live freshness. Tin Bucket, 3520 N Williams Ave. 5 pm. Free.

Saturday, October 15

Portland Beer Pro/Am

For the fourth year, 30 pro brewers including Breakside, Fat Head's and Great Notion team up with homebrewers to create some seriously ambitious one-off beers like a brett Burton Old Ale, a jalapeno cream ale, and…CBD-infused beer. A taste of all 30 beers is $25 cheap! It is, indeed, our favorite time of year. North Warehouse, 723 N Tillamook St. 12 pm. $25.

Saraveza 8th Anniversary & Grand Re-Opening

The "goodies" emerge from the cellar of a recently-updated Saraveza this Saturday to celebrate eight prosperous years on N Killingsworth Ave. With pours from De Garde, Deschutes, Russian River and more, there should be plenty of the good stuff to go around. For when you need to soak some of that up, a little birdy tells us their newly-revitalized menu is more than up to the task. Saraveza, 1004 N Killingsworth St. 11 am. Free.

Breakside Oktoberfest

Just when you thought amber lager season was over, so comes Breakside with their annual celebration of the (now past) harvest. We'll give them a mulligan, because they'll have the most creative takes on German-style beers in town. Between and roast wheat lager, a spruce-tip wheat, and a helles with cucumber, we expect our thirsts to be most-happily sated. Breakside Brewery & Tasting Room, 5821 SE International Way, Milwaukie. $15 for souvenir glass and 4 drink tickets.

Alchemeat: The Portland Beer and Charcuterie Festival

The inaugural beer and meat festival will debut this year at rising star Culmination Brewing, an excellent off-season pair for Portland Beer Week's annual Beer and Cheese fest. With boards from Tails and Trotters, Old Salt, and Laurelhurst Market, plus two 13oz pours for $35, this should be one that bears repeating. Culmination Brewing, 2117 NE Oregon St. 12 pm. $35.

Killer Pumpkin Fest

OMG #pumpkinspicelife! Over 40 pumpkin beers will clove up your nutmeg at Rogue's Green Dragon. If you're tired of pumpkin spice beer, there's pumpkin spice cocktails, pumpkin food, and pumpkin costumes. Oh dear gourd. Green Dragon, 928 SE 9th Ave. 11 am. $5 suggested donation.

Monday, October 17

Vermont-Style IPA Fest

Hazy, juicy, wonderful Vermont-style IPAs take over at N.W.I.P.A., the hall of #donthazemebro. Get cloudy goodness from Great Notion, Noble Ale Works, Block 15, Claim 52, and Brooklyn's Other Half starting at 2 pm. $14 ticket includes burger, and is available at nwipa.beer. N.W.I.P.A., 6350 SE Foster. All Day. $14.
