StormBreaker

832 N Beech St., 971-703-4516, stormbreakerbrewing.com. Noon-11 pm Tuesday-Thursday, noon-midnight Friday-Saturday, noon-10 pm Sunday-Monday.

The name evokes cloudy days, but you want to visit the former Amnesia (page 27) on a sunny day. Come summer, it's tough to find a seat on the patio of this Mississippi neighborhood brewpub, as locals drop by with their black labs and PCC students on vintage road bikes crowd the picnic tables. Inside on a chilly day, gas lamps in Mason jars, wrought-iron chandeliers and wood tables with mismatched chairs make you wonder if it might make for a suitable date spot. Don't be fooled—this is a mancave, with service and patrons to match. StormBreaker brews are tried-and-true party pleasers. The Cloud Ripper IPA delivers an expected, but satisfying, punch of hops and lingering grapefruit. Fans of Stumptown's light roasts will like the cloudy Opacus Stout's aftertaste of bittersweet chocolate over a campfire. They're meant to be drunk next to an old fridge plastered with magnets, or in front of flat screens playing ESPN. You'll find both here, under the neon green glow of the bar's plastic lanterns.
