The Oregon Zoo Will Offer Free Admission this Saturday

Plus: Swamp Monkey feeding!

The Oregon Zoo wants you to visit its furry, feathery and scaly residents this Saturday, October 8—so much so, that admission is free for the whole day. It's normally a whopping $11.50 for adults.

October 8 promises to be a full day for the zoo. Visitors will be able to watch a number activities throughout the day, including swamp monkey feeding at 11 am. (am I the only one who didn't realize swamp monkeys were a thing?), an elephant keeper talk at 1 pm. and last but not least, bat feeding at 3 pm.

The next major free day at the zoo will be November 11, when veterans, active service members and their families will be allowed free admission in recognition of Veteran's Day.

While this Saturday promises to be a popular day for going to the zoo, the Oregon Zoo continues to be a source of controversy regarding its treatment of elephants. The group Free the Oregon Zoo Elephants, which has accused the zoo of mistreating Packy the elephant, remains active and spent September raising money at Pairings Wine Shop, which promised to donate five percent of all purchases from every Friday in September to the organization.

Unfortunately, Packy could not be reached for comment.
