We're only a few months away from MusicfestNW presents Project Pabst! Each week leading up to the festival, we'll be introducing you to one of the 18 acts on the lineup.

WHO: Greta Kline (guitar, vocals), David Maine (bass, keys), Luke Pyenson (drums), Lauren Martin (keys, synth)

SOUNDS LIKE: The D.I.Y. indie-rock equivalent of a candid late-night text message thread between two really close friends.

LATEST RELEASE: Last year's Next Thing, 15 glistening micro songs that playfully and sensitively capture the distracted nature of the current generation.

FOR FANS OF: Lady Lamb, Ó (formerly Eskimeaux), Car Seat Headrest, Courtney Barnett.

WHY YOU CARE: The daughter of actors Kevin Kline and Phoebe Cates was always going to have a different upbringing from most kids. But Greta's music, under the Frankie Cosmos moniker, certainly doesn't carry any excess privilege or narcissism. In fact, the band's sound is incredibly tender and lo-fi—a homespun concoction of bedroom pop, anti-folk and wry indie wit. Kline possesses the expected millennial disaffection of most 23-year-olds, but instead of hiding away entirely, she builds subtle yet imaginative galaxies out of melancholic guitar hooks and sharp observations. She condenses all of that work into mere morsels, executing in two-minute tracks what a lot of artists spend careers trying to achieve.

SEE IT: Frankie Cosmos plays MusicfestNW presents Project Pabst at Tom McCall Waterfront Park on Sunday, Aug. 27. Get tickets here.
