Jockeying Begins for Jules Bailey's Multnomah County Seat

Multnomah County Commissioner Jules Bailey's announcement last week that he is preparing to run for Portland mayor has would-be candidates jockeying for position.

Brian Wilson, who ran unsuccessfully against Bailey for the seat in 2014, says he's contemplating a do-over. "I'm certainly strongly considering it," Wilson, 48, says.

Wilson used to run his family's real-estate management business, the Kalberer Co. And he still has an active website from his 2014 campaign. "It never really came down," he says.

Gwen Sullivan, president of the Portland Association of Teachers union, also tells WW she is weighing a run. Sullivan has never run for elected office but is deeply enmeshed in local politics.

Other possible contenders include Eric Zimmerman, chief of staff to Multnomah County Commissioner Diane McKeel; and Dr. Sharon Meieran, who ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Oregon House in 2012.

"I am very interested," Meieran, an emergency room physician, says.
