Cheap Eats 2010

Pause Kitchen is easy to miss while cruising down North Interstate Avenue, but this garage-chic bar, with its concrete floors, high ceilings and modern fixtures, is a neighborhood gem. The great food makes up for the lackluster view of the old highway—Pause's meatloaf ($10) is thinly sliced and well seasoned; the fries combine the taste of a crispy fry and the body of a thick fry. Along with well-made cocktails, other highlights include the baked mac 'n' cheese ($8) and naan-and-hummus appetizer ($7).
