Call it "banh mi for beginners." The big, tasty sandwiches at this Vietnamese drive-thru sub shop and bakery on Southeast Powell Boulevard lack the vinegary punch and funkier meat flavors of our favorite banh-mi shops, but a house-baked loaf filled with tender grilled pork or fatty Saigon bacon, pickled carrots, daikon and jalapeño ($2.95) beats the pants off Subway any day. Grab a creamy avocado shake ($3.50) or a weirdo can of mangosteen juice or "white gourd" drink from the cooler to wash it all down. There's turkey and roast beef croissant-wiches ($4.70) too, but come on, live a little.
