[MIDDLE EASTERN, HALAL MEAT] Northern Iraqi-import Khalil Abdullah's big, red Beaverton market has one of the largest selections of Middle Eastern goods in town and is a godsend for halal households. Happily wander the clean, well-lit aisles collecting a basketful of teas and spices, different dals, jars of mango pickles and a four-pack of nonalcoholic Brood malt beverage. Up front there are rows of overpowering imported floral soaps, and elaborate hookahs and an entire case of different varieties of the sweet semolina halva; farther back there's fridges and freezers packed with Armenian sweet cheese, frozen naan and kefir. Bazaar buys live, all-natural cows, lambs and goats from local farms at auction every Wednesday and takes care of the halal slaughtering itself. Find those same animals, neatly transformed into chops and roasts in the butcher's case first thing Thursday morning.
Grocery list: Goat leg, frozen halal chicken wings ($2.49/lb.), maoor dal, orange blossom water, Hannah Montana lip gloss, halal marshmallows (made with fish gelatin).
