County Adopts Resolution on Trans Fats

As state agencies insist the county has no authority to regulate trans fats at restaurants under its jurisdiction, Commissioner Lisa Naito pressed on with an amended resolution "intended to spur the conversation our community needs to have on a known health hazard," she said in her testimony.

The resolution adopted 5-0 by the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners Thursday does not regulate or ban trans fats. Instead, it aims to spur further discussion about the heart-entombing (but tasty) substance.
