Gov. John Kitzhaber has been coy about whether he'll seek an unprecedented fourth term next year—most recently batting down a question at Portland City Club on March 15, by saying he'll wait until after the legislative session ends this summer to announce a decision.
Kitzhaber may indeed wait until mid-summer to say that he's running. But filings with the Secretary of State show that the governor has already hired California fundraiser Diane Hamwi to help start building a war chest.
Three transactions filed by his political action committee show that Kitzhaber has already paid Hamwi's company, DCH Advisors, Inc., of Santa Monica, $14,000 this year. Hamwi raised money for presidential candidates Wesley Clark in 2004 and Hilary Clinton in 2008.
Kitzhaber's spokesman, Tim Raphael, says he cannot comment on campaign questions.
