In today's Murmurs column, we provided a snapshot of the fundraising of Multnomah County Chair candidates Jim Francesconi and Deborah Kafoury. At press-time on Tuesday afternoon, Kafoury led Francesconi by more than a two-to-one margin.
But after our print deadline, Francesconi filed 111 new contributions in the secretary of state's campaign finance reporting system, totaling nearly $41,000. Those contributions, which include $1,000 from developer Jim Winkler and $1,000 from Henry Swigert, one of the owners of the Portland steel company, Esco Corp, narrowed the gap between the candidates considerably.
As of today, Francesconi has made up ground: Kafoury has now raised $100,000 since the race began and he has raised $84,000.
