The Earliest Known Recording of Allen Ginsberg’s “Howl,” Captured at Reed College in 1956, Is Finally Getting a Public Release

For five decades, it was believed that the earliest recording of the seminal beat poem was from a reading Ginsberg gave in Berkley in March of 1956. That changed in 2008, when historian John Suiter went digging in Reed’s library.
