A Driverless Air Taxi Just Had Its First Successful Flight in Oregon

Airbus’ Vahana is a driverless, electric-engined octocopter designed to be capable of maneuvering through an urban or suburban landscape—and of soaring over traffic jams. According to Airbus, the rates will likely be comparable to taxis in traffic, about $1.50 to $2.50 a mile.

Flying Electric Robo-Cabs Are Coming to Oregon

Airbus announced this month that their “Vahana” project would be conducting its flight tests starting in November at the Pendleton’s Eastern Oregon Regional Airport. The Vahana fleet is expected to arrive starting in October, and Airbus has said they expect their finished fleet to be up, running and on the market by as soon as 2020.
