The Oregonian Loses Its Second High-Ranking Employee in Just Over a Month

This time, it's the equivalent of the publisher.

It's been a busy summer for departures at the highest ranks of The Oregonian.

Steve Moss, the president of Oregonian Media Group, announced his resignation this afternoon on the newspaper's website. He's leaving to work for another division of The O's parent company, Advance Publications Inc.

Moss took over the role last year from former president N. Christian Anderson III. The job essentially carries the duties of the publisher, but with a different name since Advance announced a shift of its work to the web.

Moss oversaw the buyouts of numerous staffers last year, including metro columnist Steve Duin, two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Richard Read, senior political reporter Jeff Mapes and investigative reporter Bryan Denson. He also supervised the outsourcing of much of the paper's copy desk to New Orleans.

His departure comes on the heels of the announcement of another high-profile departure: that of Erik Lukens, the news outlet's editorial and commentary editor, whose leadership brought the paper a 2014 Pulitzer in editorial writing. Lukens starts work at the Bend Bulletin on Aug 1.

Neither Moss nor editor Mark Katches returned WW's request for comment.
