Sleaze in the used car industry? For shame! Oregon Attorney General Hardy Myers filed an agreement this month with AAA Oregon/Idaho Autosource, LLC, nailing the used car broker for an alleged back-end profit scam.
According to the AG's office, the company's problems included marketing its service as “free” or “no fee,” claiming to negotiate the best prices for buyers, while actually jacking up a car's price tag to reap hidden profits.
AAA Autosource spokesman David Dugan says the company believes it did no wrong but has already paid $50,000 to the state's Consumer Protection and Education Fund. A third party will oversee a restitution program, paying back customers who were jilted.
