Just because it's Christmas, it doesn't mean you have to roast a ham. Find a savior in these restaurants that are actually open on the 25th.
The Heathman Restaurant
The upscale downtown hotel's Chef Philippe Boulot offers both a buffet and prix fixe menu, with holiday treats from slow-roasted leg of lamb to Asian barbeque salmon. And save room for pastry chef John Gayer's pecan pie and cranberry upside-down cake. 1001 SW Broadway, 790-7752. Dinner 1-9 pm, buffet 2, 2:30, 5 and 5:30 pm. $45 adults, $14 children.
House of Louie
For the ultimate Jewish Christmas experience, have dinner at Portland Chinese institution House of Louie, then go to the movies. (Apocalypto, maybe?) The restaurant offers both a dinner menu and dim sum. 331 NW Davis St., 228-9898. 11 am-10 pm.
Marrakesh
This Moroccan restaurant's five-course dinner is a steal at $17.50. Sometimes belly dancers also shake it here, but at press time the management was unable to confirm a performance on the 25th. 1201 NW 21st Ave., 248-9442. 5-10 pm. $17.50.
Yuki
Nothing hits the spot in the dead of winter like some nice, cold fish. But for you traditionalists out there, this Japanese and sushi restaurant also serves hot, cooked fare. 1337 NE Broadway, 281-6804. 11:30 am-10 pm.
