Willamette Geek: Reports that Verizon iPhone Finally Happening

Even though the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas has been raging for days—introducing a flood of smartphones, tablets, underwater 3d cameras and Wi-Fi capable toilet seats (kidding about the last part but honestly, I wouldn't put it past anyone)—it seems the biggest news has occurred outside the booths and convention halls.

Late last week, Verizon sent out some poorly color-corrected invites to everyone (sans Gizmodo) in the blogosphere to a presser to be held in New York tomorrow at 8am PST. No mention of what they will be announcing but everyone from the The Wall Street Journal to the The New York Times has claimed "sources" have told them this marks the announcement of Apple's iconic handset on Verizon's network.

Between the enormous critical mass of rumors, leaked photos and videos of new, slightly altered iPhone hardware, the chances of this not being announced tomorrow are astronomically small. But how hilarious would that be?
