Live Video: Floater at Crystal Ballroom, 1/11

Floater's Robert Wynia onstage at the Crystal Ballroom on Jan. 11.

Floater is Portland's most polarizing band. Beloved and hated in equal measure—though, as this 2010 Willamette Week cover story backs up, I'd argue the group is loved enough outside the city that it fully eclipses the hate—the band's been around for damn near 20 years, and regardless of which side of that divide you fall on, you must admit that's mighty impressive. Longevity at that scale doesn't just happen: It must be earned. And you don't earn two decades of existence by being a crappy live band.

This video, shot at the Crystal Ballroom on Jan. 11, shows Floater in its element, performing the song "Matadors" for a rabid hometown crowd. It is the first video from Generator, a project dedicated to documenting live music in Portland. Enjoy. Or, y'know, don't.
