Sir Stuffington, One-Eyed Pirate Kitten, Rakes in Donations for County Shelter

Sir Stuffington, the tiny, one-eyed cat with the most adorable sneer of all time, can now add internet fundraiser to his kitten resume.

The kitten, brought into Multnomah County Animal Services with two brothers and a host of health problems, including with calicivirus, a severe flea infestation, a heart murmur, a missing eye and a disfigured jaw. His foster mother, Blazer Schaeffer, popped Sir Stuffington into a pirate costume for photos.

The internet and media stardom was instant. (His Facebook page has more than 42,000 likes as of this morning, and his story popped up in news sites in Europe). Schaeffer used the attention to appeal for donations and more foster volunteers to the county shelter, and officials today say the wee baby pirate Stuffington has plundered people's wallets, and brought in more than $3,000.

"Community support like the foster parenting program is a huge part of the great gains we've had at animal services in our live release rates for cats and dogs,'' Multnomah County Animal Services Director Mike Oswald said in a news release. "Sir Stuffington shows how much difference any one person can make, through fostering, adopting, volunteering or donating."
