Kitzhaber, Still Undeclared, Spent $35K On Poll

Gov. John Kitzhaber

Gov. John Kitzhaber today reported spending $34,750 last month with the polling firm Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz & Associates.

Polling is the kind of activity candidates engage in to see what voters care about. Raising money is another activity candidates engage in–Kitzhaber's raised $240,000 so far this year.

But Kitzhaber, who is serving his third term as governor, is not yet a declared candidate for an unprecedented (in Oregon) fourth term.

His spokesman, Tim Raphael, has said the governor expects to make an announcement soon.

The filing deadline for the May 2014 primary is March 11.
