Buy PDX: Adidas Skate Copa Competition (Slideshow)

Adidas pro and Portland skate legend Silas Baxter Neal opened up his personal skate park, "The Grotto," to the public on April 25 for a battle of Northwest skate shops.

Adidas' annual Skate Copa is a nationwide shop-versus-shop competition where board-makers compete for $20,000 in prize money and hefty bragging rights. The Grotto, which might look familiar if you saw "The Grotto Park" Thrasher in February, hosted this year's Northwest Regional Qualifier, emceed by Tim O'Conner (of MTV's Made and Camp Kill Yourself skate crew). Finalists move on the the Skate Copa finals at The Berrics in Los Angeles on September 15.

After the first round, Portland's SE Morrison shop Shrunken Head, Berkeley's 510 Skateboards, and the Seattleites of 35th North advanced to the finals. Each jam session, where riders test the competing boards with pitiless trial rides, got gnarlier and gnarlier. The crowd was on their feet for every run, and the host-city's shop was an obvious favorite.

Portland's Shrunken Head team member Brennan Boothe won contest MVP, but 510 Skateboards from Berkeley California took first place overall with Shrunken Head in second, and 35th North coming in third.

Here are a few of the highlights from the competition.
