Skating Bowl Benefits Beaten Boarder

images

A brutal assault at a MAX stop in March left skateboarder Taylor Appelo beaten, bloodied, and broke—both physically and financially.

According to the O, four men attacked Appelo and his friend as they were waiting at the Skidmore Fountain stop. Appelo's jaw was reportedly broken in three places, and five of his teeth were knocked out.

As the physical pain diminishes, Appelo's wallet is beginning to ache. The boarder, who is the brother of professional skater Devin Appelo, has no insurance and is struggling to pay his hospital bills.

Enter the guys from Department of Skateboarding, an indoor park and training facility in Portland. They are asking people to come down to 15 NE Hancock to check out some "unbelievable bowl shredding" in an event they have planned to benefit Appelo. The contest takes place this Saturday, June 13, registration begins at 3 pm and the event at 4 pm. The cost to enter is $20, and just to watch is $5. Riding in the contest gets you two raffle tickets (showing up gets you one) for a chance to win some gear and goods from Circa Footwear, Volcom, Creature Skateboards, Grenade and many others.

All proceeds benefit Appelo, so get out there, have some fun, and help a beaten boarder brother out.
