Traffic Cameras' Delay
You know what? Forget the "outreach and education." Put up the damn traffic cameras and start issuing some big fines to these idiots who think they can drive down city streets at 50 mph and kill people ["Slow Going," WW, Nov. 23, 2016].
Word will get out in a hurry. There's your "outreach and education." Got it, Portland Bureau of Transportation?
—Hoyt Schermerhorn
Where's the evidence that speed cameras will have a significant effect on the stated problem? It looks to me like speed cameras are an easy-to-do bureaucratic (and political) cop-out, with revenue sweetener, rather than the hard studies and traffic engineering that would actually make a difference.

I do think the enforcement cameras are a good thing, though I probably wouldn't be saying this in the days I drove a sports car.
If police are being used increasingly for things other than traffic control, cameras can fill some of this gap in enforcement.
—Bob Clark
These camera systems are a financial boondoggle and provide no measurable improvement in traffic safety. Now the city wants us to pay for more?

These are further examples of the chronic money-wasting ways of Portland Public Schools ["A Long Recess," WW, Nov. 23, 2016]. PPS, don't waste more money promoting requests for still more [construction bond] money in May.
I know I'll be doing my part to discourage all Portland voters from feeding this insatiable and wasteful machine. Families need to keep their money to pay their escalating rent and hire tutors to educate their kids.
—"Seems2Me"
This has been going on for too long, and it is detracting from educating our students. PPS has been ignoring personnel issues and public records requests, and hoping these problems will resolve themselves.
This is a direct result of allowing the problem to fester, and rewarding problem hiders. Please step up, PPS. Our students deserve better.

"They wanted a permanent reminder to not choose hate and to choose love when you can. And that was powerful." [Portland's Post-Election Tattoos," WW, Nov. 23, 2016.]
Because without a tattoo, they would have forgotten about love and chosen hate.
