New Local Videos from L-Pro, iLLA, Raise the Bridges and more

When the Decemberists and Menomena come out with new videos, it's hard for any self-respecting local music fan to escape them. But unless your Twitter is truly tuned-in, you may well be missing the latest productions from Portland's bustling hip-hop scene. We aim to correct this with a brief round-up of four recent PDX video offerings from old-schoolers (L-Pro) and teenagers (Yung Mil) alike.

And, because it landed in my inbox just moments ago, the last offering on this list is some fine Portland country. It'll be a good change of pace when you get to it.

L-Pro, "Good Morning"

Call the longtime Portland MC paranoid, but it sure seems like he's being followed in this video for "Good Morning," from his swell recent Equilibrium EP. Hard not to dig the Repo Man reference at the end of this one.

iLLA, "BlakaBlaka"

From the MC who brought you "Cranberry Vodka," which never actually fully dislodged from my brain, comes a new single that's just as repetitive and infectious. Those allergic to super-fast drum machine beats best avert their ears. In case you miss it, this song indeed includes the lyric "You see a nigga stuntin'/ Bottles of that vodka/ Pussy safe is open/ Imma have to rob her."

Raise the Bridges, "It's On Now"
Perhaps the most Sublime-y track on a pretty Sublime-y album, the video for this tune from local live hip-hop/rock outfit Raise the Bridges is more than just creepy, it's downright atmospheric. I am kind of curious why they beat the shit out of that kid—played by Portland punk rocker/MC Abadawn—but it makes for a good scene. RTB's new album, Beauty in the Trenches, is out today.

Yung Mil, "Rude Boy"
The kids love Yung Mil. The Portland MC is making his presence known, and he'll only raise his profile when he appears on BET's 106 & Park next week. Here's what he's been up to—a narrative video for a mixtape-style offering riffing off Rihanna's "Rude Boy." While it doesn't have the budget of the original Rihanna vid, Mil and company did a nice job with what they have.

Bonus: Here's Yung Mil being interviewed by Cool Nutz for Wild 107.5, talking about his forthcoming trip to New York (WW reported on Mil winning the Def Jam  back in April).

Ron Rogers and the Wailing Wind, "Alabama Chrome"
Alright, alright, it can't all be hip-hop. For making it this far down the post, you get the brand-new video from Ron Rogers and the Wailing Wind. Rogers' new disc, Country & Eastern, is filled with sweet slide guitar and road ballads. I dig the album a lot—and this is one hell of a professional video.
