Dog Hotel Will Add Rooftop Deck

You know what's wrong with Portland? None of the dog hotels have rooftop decks.

Problem solved.

The Daily Journal of Commerce reported last week that Sniff Dog Hotel is planning an expansion—complete with doggie elevators—that would make it the largest dog hotel in the Pacific Northwest. (Chew on that, Seattle!)

WW has taken a look at the plans filed with the city and noticed another detail: a "rooftop dog play area" four stories above the city.

The proposal still needs approval from the Northwest District Association and the city. But it may serve as a furry harbinger of development to come: Freight company Con-Way is asking city permission to turn its empty parking lots and warehouses into a massive residential district, but needs several zoning variances.

Sniff is also asking for an exemption, if a much smaller one. The floor-to-ceiling windows for the puppy "suites" on the second floor will jut into the public right-of-way.

First the doggie deck, then the Con-Way condos?
