Cut of the Day: "Bones," Sam Cooper

Coming from a member of gentle Portland folkies Horse Feathers, it should be pretty easy to predict the sound of Sam Cooper's Long Lost Love. Your guess would probably be right: impeccably warm arrangements of acoustic guitar, fiddle, banjo, piano and mandolin; earnest, heart-swelling harmonies; lovesick lyrics referencing the weather and nature. "Bones," a particularly breezy track from the record, features all those elements, plus a hand-clapping percussive breakdown in the middle. The album officially comes out Saturday, Sept. 29, the day Cooper caps a weeklong residency at Al's Den.

SEE IT: Sam Cooper plays Al's Den at the Crystal Hotel, 303 SW 12th Ave., 972-2670 through Saturday, Sept. 29. 7 pm. Free. 21+.
