The Perfect Date Night: Chamber Blast

You know that cute guy or girl you've been staring at longingly at the coffee shop, but you never asked them out because going to see The Hobbit in 3D wasn't exactly what you thought would impress them? Well, here's your golden opportunity to impress the hell out of 'em. Chamber Blast is coming to Portland! Five of the city's most pioneering arts organizations - Chamber Music Northwest, Friends of Chamber Music, Portland Piano International, Portland Youth Philharmonic and Third Angle New Music - are banding together to bring you a winter storm of exceptional, intimate, and live chamber music! It will be fourteen concerts in fourteen days. That's fourteen chances to woo your beloved.

“So, what is chamber music?” you might ask. Well, we covered that yesterday…but the short of it is: awesome, intimate (that’s good for a date!), and live music performed by just a few really talented musicians. And in Chamber Blast’s case it’s really, really talented musicians playing.

You’ll have the opportunity to see a world class Russian pianist Denis Kozhukhin (he’s only 28), incredibly talented young kids at Camerata PYP’s concert, the superb Dover String Quartet, Matthew Polenzani, a gifted tenor, and a ton of other extraordinary musicians.

Plus these folks aren’t just hanging out on stage. They’re playing a huge variety from the world of chamber music – avant-garde and contemporary pieces, traditional pieces, vocal pieces, pieces for quartet, solo piano, chamber orchestra and more. This ain’t your grandaddy’s chamber music, that’s for sure.

How sophisticated and suave will you look when you bring that coffee shop sweetie to something like this? The answer is very sophisticated and utterly suave. So comb your beard or put on your red lipstick and let’s do this!
