Haute-N-Ready: Burgerville's Golden-Fried Asparagus

Beloved local onion ring purveyor is changing up the side order game

Welcome to Haute-N-Ready, in which John Locanthi, Willamette Week’s trencherman of leisure, tastes the hastily made, modestly priced food of the common man.

Fast Food Thanksgiving.
Casa de Tamales

Burgerville's taste good all by themselves—the flaky crust gives it a welcome tempura character—but the garlic aioli that comes with them is also quite nice.

Of course, there’s a catch: a regular order (five spears) will run you $3.75. That’s slightly more than twice the price of a regular order of fries at Burgerville, with just a little over half the calories. Some might argue that’s spending more for less, but that would only be true if fries were more than just carb-laden ketchup scoops.

Burgerville’s golden-fried asparagus spears are not for fry-lovers; they’re for us, the ambitious, the adventurous, the humble fast-food connoisseurs yearning to eat something deep-fried and green.
Combo meal done right.
